About
Anouk Kelling
Registered Clinical
Psychologist

I believe understanding a person's story, celebrating their success and working with them towards their goals honours that person. Honouring also means keeping up with the latest research, observing and acting on my professional ethics and instincts.
I have been practicing as a registered Clinical Psychologist in New Zealand since 2005. My diverse work experience has equipped me to work with adults, adolescents and children on a range of difficulties.

There are loads of studies that demonstrate the relationship between therapist and client is key to effective therapy. So it's really important that you have the opportunity to figure out if I'm the right person for you. To help I've outlined my qualifications and work history below.

On a personal note, I'm a Canadian-born New Zealand Pakeha. My family moved to Wellington when I was a child and I've lived here ever since. I'm Mum to two awesome little people who delight and test me on a daily basis.

There's no substituting talking with someone directly to get a sense of who they are. That's why I like to have a brief phone call with clients before making an appointment. These calls let you get a sense of who I am and if you think you can work with me. They also give me a chance to figure out if I have the right skills and capacity to help. If I don't think I'm the right person I'll let you know who I think might be able to help.

Work History

INFANT, CHILD & ADOLESCENT MENTAL HEALTH SERVICE
I worked in a child and adolescent mental health service in the hospital setting for 6 years after completing my training. During this time I worked mostly with adolescents and their families with a range of difficulties, including problems with stress, depression, anxiety, suicidality, self-harm, eating and relationship difficulties, amongst other problems. I also worked with children over 7 years who were experiencing depression and anxiety, family and behavioural difficulties. I completed assessments for learning disorders, intellectual disabilities, and attentional problems for both children and adolescents.

In my last 2 years at the service I led the Youth Team, managing a medium sized team, while continuing to see clients and provide clinical supervision to other Clinical Psychologists, Mental Health Nurses and Social Workers.
PRIVATE PRACTICE
In private practice I continued to provide the range of services to children and adolescents that I had provided in the public sector. Additionally, I worked with adults across the lifespan experiencing a range of difficulties, including problems with depression, anxiety, stress, relationship problems, suicidality and self-harm.

I conducted comprehensive psychological assessments for ACC and provided ACC-funded therapy for adolescents and adults with sensitive claims.

I also provided supervision to a range of health professionals, including psychologists, counsellors, mental health nurses, occupational therapists and GPs.
UMBRELLA HEALTH & RESILIENCE
I provided mental health care in the form of training and therapy to both managers and employees in both public and private settings.

I worked with managers to support staff struggling with mental illness and stress, address problematic behaviours in staff, manage workload and maintain their own wellbeing.

I also conducted, and supervised others conducting, formal psychological reports for employment purposes and supported employees undergoing performance processes to maintain their wellbeing through these stressful periods.
