Assessments
Honouring your history, circumstances & goals
Therapy assessmentsTherapy begins with an assessment.
Typically assessments are completed in 1 to 2 sessions. Where difficulties are more complex assessments can take longer. At the end of the first session we will talk about whether further assessment is required and how much time this will take.
Throughout the assessment I want to understand your goals, concerns, the impact of your difficulties on your life and those people that are important to you. I want to understand why you are experiencing this problem, what's keeping the problem going, what function the problem serves in your life and why the problem isn't worse. My goal is to bring all of this knowledge together into a model that makes sense to you and me. This model is important as it describes how your problem works and what needs to change for you to reach your goals.
At the end of the assessment we'll discuss the findings, including the strategies and therapies that will most likely help in achieving your goals. We'll also talk about whether we need to include other people - like partners, family, friends, employers or other health professionals - in our work and if so, the best way to do this.
Feedback from an assessment is typically verbal. Written feedback can be provided on request. There may be an additional cost associated with this.
